I am having issues with my idle lever on the control box. From my understanding there is really no way to repair it. Also the adjustments at the engine are about wore out on the cables. What information do I need in order to go get a new control box and throttle/shift cables?
Thanks

All the info you didn't post here.
Yr, HP, model number.
I see lots of control boxes on craigslist around $75 used.

1997 50hp model# E50ESLEUS
Will the new one come with a plug on it that just plugs into my existing wiring harness plug or will I have to wire it myself?
Would I be better off getting new throttle and shift cables as well and replacing it all?
Thanks

You will get a harness with the correct plug, black plug after 1996, previously they were red. Control cables are cheap if you decide to swap them out.
Examine yours for stiffness or if you have to keep adjusting them due to stretching. Measure the length.

Re: Replacing throttle/control box on console and cables

if you have a console and need a TOP mounted control, they will not be easy to find..used

the side mounts are all over the place..

and from memory the side mount units are harder to deal with than the bimini style(top surface mount)

the harness goes into the side mount..

on my bimini( post 96 style) there are pigtails connectors hanging that are easy to access, to plug in your motor harness to.

the other side mount style harness that i have seen, may need to be feed back to the motor.

the cables are about $18 ...measure carefully, or take out the old and match it...so long as the control you buy is in the same place as the old one.

good luck
