Replacing the Power Pilot on my 1978 Evinrude 55HP

I have a 1978 Evinrude 55HP with a Power Pilot control box, It used to lock up and you would have to take it apart and it would work fine but now today it locked up and I took it part and it still won't free up. I would like to replace it with a newer OMC control and I have read that any control box with a red plug 1994 and older will work with my motor. My question is will my cables that are on the motor now connect to these newer controls? I have some pictures the throttle and shifter cables where they attach inside the control.

Anyone who can help me thanks in advance, I would like to get my boat back on the water before the ice comes
