This past weekend my horn was not working on my 2010 18.5 Sport. I checked the fuse, no problem, then I went to the front of the bow and I pulled the two screws and remove the horn piece. When I shaked the horn piece it has water. As soon as I shaked the water off, the horn start functioning a bit. I contacted Sea Ray and they told me to go back to the dealer and they will replace the horn. My question is the horn waterproof? Water can come in when riding the boat inside that horn. The dealer said that they are rain waterproof but that is it. Does not make sense that inside the horn piece it had water. Either way I was given a new horn piece to replace. We will see if I will have more issues in the future with having water inside the horn..

Re: Replacing the Horn

I've often thought about replacing the stock horn... just because it's no better than a duck quack. I wonder if a regular automotive horn would last? Would certain ones fit or not fit?

Re: Replacing the Horn

Automotive horns will work if the horn isn't mounted in a visible area. The way I see it thy get hit with water and road spray from driving in wet conditions. Up here there is road salt in that road spray during the winter months. Automotive horns are designed to work in some pretty rough conditions just like boat horns.

Of course they are not designed to be seen so they are not going to look good.

I personally replaced my boats horn with a marine replacement. Horns aren't expensive enough that I personally think it's worth trying to save a few bucks with a car horn.

Re: Replacing the Horn

Well replaced the horn with a new one (under warranty) drilled a small hole under the horn to drain the water per the Sea Ray tech suggestion. We will see if this does the trick. Thank you.
