Hello there and thanks for your time.

I have a 1979 Carver cabin cruiser with a I/O mercruiser 260 (Chevy 350). The starter has been hanging up and I think it needs to be replaced. After a few hours hoping to find a workaround, I am conviced that I will have to separate the outdrive from the motor and pull the motor to reach both bolts on the starter so I can replace it.

If I am wrong, please tell me what I am missing?

If I am correct, does anyone have any good tech tips on doing this. I have never needed to remove an engine before, especially not a marine motor.

It all depends on the boat. I have had to pull engine to replace starters (many times) also to change impellers (new model Mercruiser V8 engines in 22 & 23' BL) have also had to pull engine to do a tuneup. (Late 80's Campion) could only touch 2 spark plugs, let alone replace them.
