I need to replace the shaft in my '04 Merc 250. I have the manual ordered and want to know how big a job this is and if there are any special tools needed. I have various pullers and presses and a fairly complete assortment of hand tools.

Any help is appreciated.

Barry

Yo Berry,
I don' have anything that new but I'd bet you're gonna need the carrier bearing nut tool. It fits over the prop shaft and grabs the slots in the nut that holds the carrier bearing in. The nut's installed with 200ft/lbs. of torque it takes this tool. That and maybe a puller for the carrier bearing is the only special stuff I can think of.

c/6
Hooty

Hooty:

Thanks for the info. I'll wait until I get the manual and if I need a tool, I guess I'll round one up or make one.

Thanks again,

Barry
