Replacing old MerCruiser Y Pipe

In the process of potentially purchasing a Bertram 28 FBC (1978). Twin MerCruiser 228s. The Y Pipe on starboard engine looks pretty bad, definitely needs to be replaced (lots of corrosion on outside of pipe). I've heard they don't make Y pipes that will fit these older engines anymore. Is that true? Will I have to get them custom made? Given the age of the engines (having a mechanic take a look at them tomorrow), is it almost better to drop in some new (see: rebuilt or used) 350s with corresponding Y pipes? Any insights greatly appreciated.

Are you close to north central Indiana? I've got one out in the shop from a '77 888 mercruiser. But that's the little Ford small block & it might be different.

MOD EDIT - Take it to PM's.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... The motor end of the y-pipe is pretty much the same as it's always been,....

The connection to the transom housin' has changed a few times though,....

Ya oughta be able to easily find a freshwater take-off unit to replace yer's,.....

Or,.... Updatin' the transom assemblies to Alpha 1s is another option,.... again, used freshwater take-offs,...

Definitely look on eBay for used fresh water pipes. Replaced one of mine at 1/4 the price of new. When it arrived it was clean as a whistle. Zero corrosion.

I just seen a couple on eBay as I was looking for center rise manifolds to convert mine over the winter. There are definitely some out there.
Good luck
