Hi,

I have a 1979 80hp Merc, need to replace ignition switch, my current switch is dash mounted and has a separate choke button, I would like to replace with a push to choke ignition switch, what switch model do I need.

Also the last 4 feet of battery cables coming off the motor harness are in bad shape, their is about 3 feet of good cable coming from the motor, I want to move my battery from the stern to under the console (Boston Whaler) I need to extend 11 feet on each cable and put some terminal post at the stern to connect to the motor leads. Is 4 AWG sufficient for this extension or should i bite the bullet and go to 2 AWG. so total their would be 3 feet of 6 AWG and 11 feet of ?

Thanks
Marc

Any push to choke outboard ignition switch will work. Just pay attention to wiring. Most of those switches are six terminal styles. B = battery, C = choke, S = starter/solenoid, I = ignition, and the two "M" terminals are kill terminals for the ignition (magneto and magneto ground.
