OK gurus, I need your help. I succesfully replaced my starter today and I am ready to tackle my next project. I need to replace my live well pump, but I can't reach it. My fish & ski has a back deck like a bass boat. The pump is mounted at the bottom of the transom. I have 2 access doors for the batteries, but I can't get to the pump. Any ideas?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Yea they are a pain for sure.
They put them things in there and then put the top half of the boat on.

First thing is you have to become one with the boat. :)

Take the access doors off to get them out of your way.

Then you have to lay down and get into that storage hole as much as you can to reach them.
Also remember they have been on for a while and they will be tuff to get loose, but it can be done.

I weigh over 300lbs. and replaced one of mine.

I though I would die before I got it, but I did, and you can also, just take your time and use a fan to blow on you. It helps keep you cool.

Good luck.

Pull the batteries if it makes it any easier..
Just mark the cables so you know where they go..

Re: Replacing Live Well Pump

Thanks for the good advice. I removed the battery from the port side and proceeded to get close to my boat. I was able reach (barely) the pump and pull it up enough to cut the wires and remove it. I then spliced the wires and connected the hose. I recruited my 7 year old to climb into the compartment and slide the tube through the hole in the transom. He did a perfect job. Added a little sealer to the nut, tightened it up and the job was done.

Let's see. I've owned the boat for two weeks and I've replaced a starter and a live well pump. Not a bad wrench if I do say so myself. I have learned a great deal from this board and I am truly grateful.

Chris

Now take the kid fishin! My 7 year old helped me with my starter, got the one realy hard bolt started for me. He was so happy(more than me I think) 2 months later and he still tells the story to the guys around the ramps we go to.

I sure will. He's still playing baseball tournaments and I hope we can hit the water this weekend. I took them last Saturday after the games and the poor thing wouldn't start, and it was leaking! What a day. Maybe this weekend will be a little better.

Check us out. Sign out guestbook.
Alamance All-Stars
Chris
