I'm going to be replacing my gimble bearing this week because it has been growling. While I'm at it I was curious what else I should probably replace? The boat is a 1990 and the engine and outdrive look great aesthetically and have treated me well so far. I've owned it for 2 years and gotten a whole lot of use out of it with only a few issues. The outdrive had been flawless until recently when the bearing started making noise. This year I've also noticed the boat has been taking on a more-than-average amount of water and I'm not too sure where the most likely places are this water could be coming from. Worth consideration is that last year before putting the boat down for the winter, my father had left the drive down while bringing it home on the trailer and he said the prop had slammed into the ground at some point during the ride. It dinged up one of the prop blades pretty good (replaced it with another prop that was lying around). I'm not sure what kind of damage could have been done besides the visible damage to the prop when the drive hit, but it drives good except for the gimble noise. Sometimes it does have problems shifting into neutral where it feels like the shifter is getting stuck and just doesn't want to go any further, I have to give it a few tougher pulls to get it to shift out of gear. I'm sure I'm not giving enough details to get any certain answers but I'd appreciate any knowledge that might help me out. TIA!

Water could be coming from a transom seal losened from the impact with the ground or it could be coming from a hole in the ujoint bellows in which case you'll be needing bellows and u-joints inaddition to the gimbal brg and poss seals/yoke.

Pull the drive and look.
