I couldn't find a better place for this to go, please put it in the correct place if there is a better one. I have a 92 24ft pontoon Suncastor (OB 115 Mariner), my pontoon has a fuel tank that is in a back side compartment. I was curiouse does anyone know they best way to fix the fuel gauge? This is something I have never done or have never seen done. Any help would be appreciated, I know I can do it if I am given the right direction on how to fix......I HATE being on the lake with it not working. Thanks

Re: Replacing Fual Gauge/Sender

Here is a diagram of the fuel gauge and sender wiring. Check for 12 volts at the gauge with the key on. If its not there, determine why. Check for ground at the gauge. An ohm meter is necessary. Looking at the wire doesn't count here. Is the sender wire connected to the "S" terminal on the gauge? If things look good at the gauge, it's time to look at the sender.

Disconnect the wire at the sender and measure the resistance from the sender terminal to ground. Resistance to ground will be somewhere between 33 and 240 ohms depending on how much fuel is in the tank. 1/2 tank is about 109 ohms give or take a bit. You can do the math for more or less fuel. If the resistance is way off or you measure open circuit, the sender is bad. Remove the screws, lift out the sender and slide in the new one with a new gasket.
