replacing circulating pump

on volvo 5.7. What kind of sealer should I use on the treads for the 4 bolts ?

You're talking about the four bolts that go into the block, right? You don't need any sealer on the bolts, but you can put blue loctite or equivalent on them to keep them clean. I would also advise running a tap into the holes to clean them out first. When you get to the bottom of the hole STOP. The tap should turn very easy, when it gets harder take it out (reverse). Do it by hand, don't use a drill, and don't be one of those guys who breaks a tap off in his block. Should be 3/8 16.

haven, I use Permatex non-hardening sealer. You could also use "Anti-Seize" compound, which is a bit better.

thanks for the replys. Yes it is the 4 bolts that bolt the pump to the block, and they go into the water jacket, so there is no bottom to them.

merc manual on a 5.7l says to use perfect seal on the bolts. which is their gasket sealing product
