replacing a yamaha sterndrive outdrive

I have a 92 renken seamaster. Its powered by a 4.3 yamaha engine with a yamaha outdrive.

I am going to be replacing the outdrive. is there a direct replacement outdrive that will just bolt on? Or does the (i think its called)
intermediate have to be changed also.
What is a good name in outdrives? one that has parts available and at a reasonable price.

Thanks for your help, more ??? to follow

Whats wrong with the yamaha drive you have. Those were good drives.

unfortunately it was stolen, I talked to a couple people and they said I'm screwed. I need a whole new package, I don't believe I need a new engine, but i'm not a mechanic

Well, ain't nothing gonna fit, even if you change out the transom assembly. Nothing will match up. You might be in luck, pulling a 4.3 Yamaha this week and changing it out to Mercruiser so I should have a good drive.

Thanbks capt. Ken

I may need it, but first want to continue to look and see what else is available, I know parts are becoming scarce for yamaha. And I plan on keeping my boat as long as possible

Then you might as well start pricing a new repower. If its an insurance claim, you could probably get them to pay for it since the drive is no longer available from yamaha. You're probably looking in the neighborhood of ten grand for a carb'ed 4'3 with Alpha and about a grand more for a MPI model installed.

Wow, Thanks for the info capt ken. it is much appreciated. I wish I talked to you before I bought the boat. The theft is covered but I wasn't looking for a new engine. Last year my mechanic went nuts replacing the maniflods and risers,as you know parts are hard to find. we eventually found a setup from osco.
My mechanic said probably have to repower, I just didn't believe him.

Hmmm, got manifolds and risers in stock. Feel like the Maytag repairman sometimes.

Not last year at this time, I called you too.
even called yamaha, what a waste of time that was, and then said we plan to make more just don't know when, refered me to a boat salvage.

Glad they made more

Last year was a different story. Somehow I managed to get two pairs of risers when no one else could this year. Manifolds have always been available.

Just my luck, last year I gave the boat over to the mechanic in june and picked it up in september, osco wasn't an easy swap.
did the manifolds come down in price?
