I have a mid to late 70's model 70 HP Envinrude with a bad starter. Is there a way to remove the starter without dismantling half the engine?

Re: Replacing a Starter

I would recommend getting a parts catalogue for your motor -- might check on Ebay. A blow-up is extremely useful. The starter probably comes off with the bracket to which it is attached to the engine. You can probably figure out what what has to be disconnected from the bracket, if anything, to allow you to remove the unit. Make sure the battery is not hooked up.
