Replacing a Busted Tralier Roller

I'm trying to replace the bow roller on my trailer but am not sure how to remove the pin. The old roller finally came off after splitting a while back, so there's only one side being supported currently. The pin is triangular shaped and I don't see anyway of removing it without cutting it and replacing it with a new one. The trailer is a 1991 Shorelander and the boat is a 1987 Arima if that helps any. I'll try to attach pictures to explain better on what is happening here.

Thanks in advance

Ayuh,... Don't cut it, Bend it, so you can bend it back onto the shaft....

^^^ ditto ^^^
the split is inside the shaft, a good pair of pliers will do it for you
of course, I'd replace it myself, I don't trust any pin like that a second time

Those are called Hog rings and you should be able to find them at most hardware stores.

I'd just cut them and replace with a cotter pin.

I've got to replace several rollers on my trailer and I've been thinking the same thing - cotter pins. The price they want for the "hog ring" fasteners is obscene! Is there any reason why cotter pins won't work?

Your pics were so small I missed that detail. Absolutely not. Bent back tight so that you can't spear yourself they are probably safer than what you have.

I suspect you will have to replace the roller shaft anyway. All the old ones I have removed were too bent to properly roll anymore.

Re: Replacing a Busted Tralier Roller

Thanks for the replys...Yeah had to bend the pin out to remove the roller shaft, which is bent also. Definitely going to replace these parts rather than try to reuse them. The other rollers seem to roll alright for now, but look like they will need attention in the near future. The local stores want an arm and a leg for rollers and roller shafts ($15-25 each!!), does anyone know where to get them online for the best price?

Thanks in Advance,
Jake B.
