Replacement Fuel Sender?

Trying to get a somewhat accurate fuel gauge reading (like to within 1/4 tank would be great). I replaced it years ago and for some reason shortened the arm. I installed a heavier motor and cleaned up the helm connections. The heavier motor especially now shifts the gas to the stern, and the gauge reads full until...well, I don't know. It's still full at 1/2 tank anyway. I'm thinking of actually trying to extend the arm so that the float rests at the front of the tank, where the level would change first. Any other ideas?

Unless you use a tank with baffles you will always get false readings. Boats tip and .ove a lot so fuel is always sloshing and moving around in the tank. I always take my fuel reading at dock when not moving, I know how much I have and how far I can go. I also allow the 1/3 rule for error...

The problem is that even at 1/2 tank, the area where the sender is located (aft section of the tank) is completely full. The tank empties as much fore-->aft as it does top-->bottom, since it's always angled towards the stern.

Sounds like a ‘digital’ situation - either a ‘1’ (full) or a ‘0’ (empty). 😀
