Wasn't sure if i should post this here or in the volvo forum.... Just received my replacement DB electrical alternator and started looking at the wiring between the currently installed Prestolite and the new DB Electrical and they're totally different. The DB doesn't even have the same # of terminals??? I emailed DB but haven't heard back yet so figured I'd try here to see if anyone has gone through this or could help me out with the wiring as I'm lost....

This is the prestolite

This is the new DB Electrical

I was figuring it would be an easy wire for wire swap out but the labeling isn't even close.
Existing wiring on prestolite is
Orange - labeled "POS+ Output"
Purple w/ stripe - labeled "A.C. Tap"
Green - labeled "Ind. Light Term" (i think, hard to read)
Red jumpered (solo) - labeled "SEN"
Red jumpered with purple - labeled "EXC"
Black - not labeled.

Any help would be much appreciated as always.....

Spoke with Tech support at DB Electrical - very helpful... In case anyone else on here runs into the same issue, the connections are as follows:

- Orange (POS + Output) - goes to terminal labeled B+ (can't see in my photo above but its the one with the 2 nuts at about 2 o'clock and has the small black lead attached from the 250v
- Purple w stripe (A.C. Tap) - goes to terminal labeled P (has a black cap on it at about 11 o'clock)
- Green (Ind. Light Term) - Goes to terminal labeled L2 (has a black cap on it at about 9 o'clock)
- Red jumpered single (SEN) - Goes to terminal labeled S
- Red jumpered from S and solid purple (EXC) - goes to terminal labeled EXC
- Black (ground) - goes to terminal labeled E

Thank you so much for posting this. I am facing the exact same dilemma this weekend (replacing my old Prestolite alternator with the exact same unit from DB). I assume that the wiring scheme they gave you worked out ok?

Followed those directions yesterday and they worked like a champ. New alternator works great!

Great!! Glad to hear. I got mine connected up yesterday after finishing with the pulley's. Just didn't have any liquid electrical tape stuff to put on the connectors so didn't finish the install. Hope to get there this weekend.

Although it was almost 2 years ago, thanks for the post with spelling out the connections going from Prestolite to a new alternator - big help for me about to undertake the same!
