i have a mercury outboard 45 hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke the motor overheated I strip the lower unit down and fitted a new water pump kit and seals and reassemble and now there is water coming out of the tattle tale only when the motor is in gear and when put into neutral the water slow down and stops until you run it in gear a gain

Only thing I can think of is that is signaling a lack of adequate cooling water. Before you rip things apart, remove the cowl and run the engine on the boat at cruising speed for awhile and in the process, every few minutes put your hand on the plate that surrounds the spark plugs. That's the water jacket cover over the crankcase cooling water chamber.

If you can keep your finger tips on the surface for a couple of minutes without having to remove them then your cooling is ok and you may have possibly dislodged some crud in your pee line. If you can't then you didn't get everything back as it should be. One thing to think about is the copper tube from the output of the water pump to the bottom of the crankcase. If not seated properly you won't have adequate cooling.
