Replaced Trolling Motor, battery question

All,
I recently replaced my trolling motor. The thing is the old one was a 36 Volt motor and the new one is only 24 volt. What are the ramifications for leaving my batteries connected for a 36 volt trolling motor? To be honest, ever since I installed the new 24 volt motor, I have had nothing but problems with the batteries, especially the cranking battery.

Thanks for any advice

Would you carry a ton and a half in a half ton truck?

Lucky if you haven't fried the motor, too.

Reconnect your batteries for 24 volts.
