replaced motor now controls are reversed

I had a Johnson 70, and replaced it with a 1977 evenrude 75. Now when I shift into drive the motor actually goes into reverse. Any idea what is problem our how to fix. OMC control box.

I think you should have gotten the controls with the engine you got. I think the the shifting is reversed between the two, I don't know if you can convert your old control box, I have never tried to do it.

What year was the original Johnson 70hp?

You have your throttle and gear cables reversed by the sounds of it.
