Replaced impeller on Yammie 4.3 now what???

Just replaced my impeller on a yamaha 4.3 because it was running hot. Someone said that yammies are prone to impeller damage due to the pump is too far from the outdrive so the engine has to be reved higher during start-up to quickly suck the water through the system. I just need confirmation or a solution. It was not used for a month and the impeller was replaced 2 months ago. Any advice is appreciated...

Sure i posted this before. Maybe my puta is playing up.
If your previous impellor lost a few bits, they can plug cooling passages and cause overheating.
A busted thermostat will also cause overheating
A restriction in the water supply on the inlet side of the pump can cause you grief, while the circulating pump on the front of the engine may be on the way out. I suggest you get a manual and do some faultfinding.

Wont the pieces of rubber be chewed up into little pieces by the waterpump and blown out?

I just posted on my post about the same problem with my boat - has AGGGGG in the title - I bet 90 to 1 that is your trouble too. i have had the thermostat out of mine and two guys from the marina where we are looking at it.... rest assured it is probably not a big problem, these motors are iron dukes too, i have maxed mine several times and been very fortunate!

Impeller replaced and ye, there was a screen with little pieces of rubber. Thanks hmedic!!!
