I replaced my impeller on my 1982 9.8 Merc and by your advice and help went pretty easy. I will be able to do this in the future quite easily and quickly. My problem though is I have no reverse now. Forward is in the neutral position and neutral in the reverse position. So I can go in forward and neutral, but I can't physically go in reverse. I am sure that it has to do with when or how I put the lower end in. Maybe I moved the shifter while it was out. Hopefully and I am very confident my fine sailors out there have the solution and have experienced this before. Thanks Pat M.

Re: replaced impeller no reverse????

You're gonna have to pull it again. You have to make sure that the LU is in the same gear as the lever. When you get it back together before you bolt it up, spin the prop as you shift gears to make sure that it goes in the right direction in the right gear. If you even suspect you may have a LU problem shift it after you pull it off and make sure the prop spins the right direction. I'm not too familiar with your motor, so before you take the LU off, make sure that the shift lever and what its connected to are doing what they are suppose to do on top.

Oh I see said the blind boater. I knew it had to do with something like that, but your suggestion will be very helpful. Heading to the Winnie Derby Thursday without the wife and kids, though sitting in the cabin wouldn't be that bad, this will get us trolling at the right speed thanks. :D
