Replace ujoint bellows and what else?

1994 Chaparral with 5.7L merc and Alpha I Gen II sterndrive. Engine and sterndrive are original. My exhaust bellows has a rather large hole in it, and my trim and limit switches both do not work (they are frayed at the switches on the upper unit).

1. Do I need to replace it, can it be done easily, or does the sterndrive need to be pulled?

2. If I tear into it, what else should be replaced? Shift cable, exhaust bellows, bearing and ujoint (no idea what shape they are in, I will assume they need replacing)? I did the impeller last year, so it should be ok.

Thanks

Re: Replace ujoint bellows and what else?

After some searching, I found a thread about an exhaust tube which sounds like a good solution. I guess I just need some advice in general. Thanks.

I would like to hear about the exhaust tube too. Why did they go to that and are there any benefits. I'm replacing my bellows this weekend and I went with the original stock bellows on the exhaust. Should I have gone with the tube?

I'm sure someone will chime in and answer your questions Road Head.
