replace old points

i do have a diansour......85 hp johnson <br />model number 85esl70b<br />s/n j3328919........mfg. 1970<br /><br />pin sheared in flywheel.....hence no start..<br /><br />now...replace fuel pump. couldn't find new point set.....cleaned all connections....fires but may stop any moment. would like to do away with points completely. where can i find this and how much will it cost me?

Points usually are not the problem with this motor,once they are cleaned and set.But yes,they are NLA.<br /><br />Intermittent spark is usually a failing Amplifier,in this case.<br /><br />DHP

After careful consideration you may want to keep the points and ditch the amp, if it is giving you problems. Amps cost in excess of $300.00 and a good used one is almost unheard of. You may want to go with a coil and condenser instead.
