Will it be alot easier tow for my truck going from single axle to double for my 19 foot boat? Will it also be easier on my transmission? Thanks

No, and No. Harder tow and harder on the vehicle.

The only time you need a double axle trailer is when the boat is too heavy for a good single.

The most effective way to move a load is to haul it -- meaning to place the load ON the vehicle. Since thats not practical we must tow it. Towing a load means that you must move extra weight (the trailer) and you have the rolling resistance of the wheels to overcome. Adding another set of wheels merely increases rolling resistance. It does not reduce stress on anything except the trailer. One reduces rolling resistance by increasing the wheel diameter but there is a limit with that as well.

You might also consider the safety factor. If you lose a tire @ 65 mph you'll be mighty happy you have a tandem. I found that it handles better in turns and while maneuvering than a single. It ran about $550 (including wheels/tires) to have a 2nd axle added. Haven't noticed any negatives at all. Good luck.

I found twin axle is harder to turn by hand as the pivot point is larger and more resistance.

Ayuh,........

Pulling a loaded Tandem trailer, Turns are Really Hard,.....Lots of Stresses,... Everywhere.....
It Hard on the Tow Unit,+ the Trailer,.....And the Tires......It Scuffs them Real Bad.....

Just pushing an Empty tandem by Hand,.... It's Totally Impossible to Turn it.......

As for the Blow-out Safety,.........It's Still Quite a Ride sometimes.....
And,..... Proper Maintenance would pretty much preclude that from happening........

1 more thing,........

You'll be buying Twice as many Tires,.......
And,........
They Wear Out Twice as Fast.................... ;)

Don't forget, if you are close to or over the weight limit for your single, you can have a heavier duty axle made (champion trailers does this) so you can go from a 3500 lb axle to a 5200 lb axle, and upgrade the springs, tires/wheels and brakes to match. This gets pricey, but still cheaper than a new trailer, and saves weight that the tow vehicle must pull. I have a single partly because a tandem would be a lot harder to get into my narrow driveway from our very narrow street.

From a guy that just lost blew 2 fairly new radial tires in 2 weeks going 70 miles an hour on the interstate, I would recomend a duel axle trailer. I didn't even know they went until a car came past me blowing his horn. This happened 2 times before I learned how important it is to check you tire pressure before you go.

And on toll roads you pay toll by the axle, so the toll will be bigger, too.
