Replace Hydraulic Trim with Electric Trim?

I have a 25' Larson Hampton from 1997. The current trim tabs(which don't work) are hydraulic. However currently it seems that Bennet recommends electric(or hydraulic) trim tabs for this size boat. Would it make sense to replace the hydraulic tabs with electric ones and remove a point-of-failure(hydraulic pump?), or should I continue with the hydraulic tabs?

Hydraulic systems are pretty reliable when maintained properly. I would look at it from a cost and time perspective. Would it be easier replace/ rebuild the current pump, vs having to un-install and reinstall a compleletly different system. If you go electrical, then you will need to possibly beef up your charging system and batteries which could get expensive fast.

Good
Luck!!

Water and electricity don’t mix. It’s not if an electric actuator fails, it’s when and where

One of the great hidden features of a hydraulic tab is the ability to retract a failed tab by simply “cracking” the line (tubing) running to the tab in question.

No such means of recovery with an electric actuator.

Having an actuator stick in the “down” position 45 miles off shore is no fun.

Having it happen to you twice, on two different boats, priceless..... ie.you couldn’t pay me ;)

hydraulic systems if maintained last nearly 50 years.

electric actuators, if maintained last about 10 -15 years

its not that bennett is recommending electric, they are offering electric because the only thing that Lenco sells is electric and they were tired of loosing sales to Lenco
