I have posted about this problem before and I've took all advice seriously....my problem was with my '85 OMC 3.8L 800 series drive...I have twins and I had problems with one engine running rich, not idling good, and fouling plugs...I have done COMPLETE tune-up, including carb rebuild, compression checks, and vacuum tests....welllll, my problem still exists....I have switched carb to other engine and problem follows...so carb is the problem (4 barrel rochester)....the only thing that I noticed is that idle mixture screws are loose and wobbly in threads. my questions are: Will these "loose" mixture screws cause this problem, and if so, is there a fix other than replacing carb? Is there anything that i might be overlooking?
I might also mention that if engine has'nt totally fouled plugs, it will run fine, sometimes with a miss until it clears itself, at cruising speed.
I have contacted FlyingFish carburators about a remaned carb....they have good prices and tell me that carb is just a bolt on and adjust idle speed as they test every carb on an engine and even fine tune it. Any one have any experience with this company? I just want to make sure that I'm not overlooking anything before I spend the money on a new carb.

Re: replace carb????

The worn out mixture screws are not uncommon, rebuilding the carb is doable if you good at following detailed instructions. The worn mixture screws won't effect the carb at normal running speed only in the idle range so a rich (or lean) idle will cause it to run rough at idle it may cause problems during the transition phase but it won't effect it once its gets on the main jet. Swap the screws from the good carb to determine if it’s the body that is worn out or the screws. If it’s the body than go the remanufactured unit.
