Re: Replace 115hp OMC Turbo Jet Motor
I dont know how mechanically inclined you are or exactly what an OMC 115 looks like, or the tools that you have access to but I can tell you that it is not as hard as it looks. I have worked on many cars and pulled a few motors in my day and the hardest thing to do to get my motor out was to find a shop that had a hoist and not a cherry picker to clear the boats hull. If you have done your prep work to get access to your engine then your half way done.
On your question about if you need to remove and re hook up the cables, there is more to it than just that. Are you just replacing the Long Block of the motor or are you doing a complete swap and the new motor has all your needed parts on it like distributer, carb & intake, water pump & alternator, ect...ect.?? My best advice to you would be to keep all your sealed components like power steering all intact, and take your time to make notes and mark your wires that go to everything. Most will fall back into place because of "Habit" of the location but also there are several wires that may look alike that go to different things in the same area. I am learning that even using the same parts I am still having to trouble shoot and make adjustments to get the motor dialed in. The actual swap was easier in my case then the tuning to get it running correctly. LOL!!
