Hi i am new to this forum trying to repair the wear ring on my 90hp sportjet
i removed it from the drive and noticed that there is a groove that runs right around the inside of the wear ring it is about 1/4" by 1/4"it looks to be factory
machined but its hard to tell due to the aluminum is pretty badly scored can anyone tell me what its for,are ther consequences if i fill it in.I have never seen a new ss replacement so i don't know if it would have it or not,i am also looking for the spec between the wear ring and impeller and part # for the rear bearing
oil, any information would be great thanks and keep up the jets.

The impeller side of the wear ring should be smooth as a babies butt.

Clearances are adjusted by shims under the impeller.

Clearance adjustment determines actual engine load/rpm, the less clearance the more water is pumped and the engine rpm is reduced. Adjust clearance to hold WOT RPM at the engines rated RPM.

A stainless impeller w/sharpened leading edge will make a noticable difference after you replace that worn wear ring.

Check out the web site for San Leandro pumps, they make most of the merc pumps.

Do you have a web site for the san leandro pumps? Thanks for the information
on the wear ring i have refurbished it and will be testing it this week while on holidays hoping for some improvement out of the hole, with any luck it will push me to replace the wear ring and impeller to a newer design but research will be required first.

So, the less clearance, the faster the boat? Im trying to boost performance on my 90 hp sport jet and I dont know if my ring is worn, where exactly is it located at, and how do I check it, what should it look like?
