I am currently repairing a 1968 mercury 3.9 hp. I have replaced the impeller and now starting to put a carburetor kit with needle and seat as well as a new float in the Tillitson carburetor. To make sure the fuel system works well I am going to put a new diaphragm in the fuel pump. the gas lines are both original and I need to replace them both. I am having a time finding gas line hose that has a small enough diameter. Can anyone give me any helpful tips? I will also change the points and condensor. If there is anyone out there that is familiar with these small outboards I would be happy to hear from them. I was told that it does not have a shear pin but has rubber in the impellar. ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THESE LITTLE MOTORS??? thanks

I don't know much about small motors, but www.mcmaster.com is always a good place to check for odd-sized hoses and such.

Hi External,
Fuel hoses ought to be easy, but you'll have to replace all of the fittings, too. I usually just do away with the old Mercury crimped hoses and replace them with brass hose nipples and new hoses using hose clamps. Hose should be 1/4" I.D. and fittings should match up with the hose... Fittings and hose available through NAPA. NAPA also has igntion parts should your local Merc dealer laugh at you for wanting to keep a 30+ year old motor going.
- Scott
