I took my boat in for repairs. I had new water pump and my VRO was going out so I had it replaced, had a few other minor things done. Well I took it out Sunday for a test run. It went in reverse I backed off the trailer and put it in forward. It took off and would not stop. No neutral. I cut the engine to keep from crashing into the dock. When I used my trolling motor to get out a ways and start it back up It would not go forward or in reverse. My question is what was disconnected in order to replace the VRO? I am taking it back to the mechanic and I don?t want to hear that it was something different from his repairs.

Re: Repair problems

Thanks....I am taking it back to him this morning and I just don?t want him to try and tell me it?s was something totally unrelated. It was working when I took it in and now its not....not that I don?t trust the guy...he seems honest, but I am leery.

Re: Repair problems

No damage other than time lost.

He didn't double check the shift pin engagement with the shift shaft after replacing the water pump.

Should be done in 15 minutes, no charge, and a sincere apology for spoiling your time.

I've made this mistake, usually catch it BEFORE I give the boat back!

Re: Repair problems

Of all the possibilities it really depends on what motor you have.

Re: Repair problems

Says it was a broken cable...broken at the throttle. So of coarse it wasn?t his fault.

Re: Repair problems

if it is a broken cable at the throttle it is probably coincidence.
