I did a search on this topic in the Forums on OMC Repair Manuals and found some recommendations but still a bit confused..... In an earlier post, someone suggested getting an "OMC" manual and lamented about the cost (about $100).

I did an eBay and Amazon.com search for OMC Stern Drive Repair Manuals and three come up; Seloc, Clymers, and Glenn. They range from $19.00 to $72.00 (Clymers). Amazon seems to have the better deals.

Is there another publication that's better? Of the three listed here, is there a best choice?

Thanks.

Re: Repair Manuals

Those aftermarket manuals are good for kneepads, at best. I've got a few paper OMC manuals, not sure what 1 your looking for. I don't think i'm ready to part with mine yet but if your just looking for a spec or something like that i'll be happy to look it up.

Re: Repair Manuals

Thanks for the offer. I'm restoring my recently acquired '70 Evinrude Explorer and am pretty self sufficient and logical about most things automotive and my previous Bayliner with a 280 outdrive but figured since I'm not familiar with OMC it was wise to get my own manual so I can check the fluids, the impeller and other various things (though not necessarily in that order :D) without messing things up.

This boat looks like someone started a restoration on it previously but never finished. The engine was replaced at one point, or so I'm told, and the outdrive is clean but does show external signs of someone having fiddled with it so I want to double check stuff before her maiden voyage (under me). I'm hoping any necessary work was done on it previously but ya never know.

Just looking to find the best overall manaul to get. According to yet another thread I found, it's looking like a true OMC manual is the best bet.
