I am considering buying a repair/shop manual for my 1997 C90TLRV 90 horse Yamaha
2 stoke motor. I was wondering if I should just get the Yamaha manual or one of the aftermarket brands. Thanks

Agree with Scott that the factory service manual for your Yamaha is the best choice. Aftermarket manuals generally cover a broad range of models while the factory versions are more specific. Spend the few extra bucks and save time and frustration.

3rd party will be a range of models and years. The pictures will rarely be exactly what you have in front of you, and are often grainy and difficult to make out fine details. The steps will also be generic and will have a step or be missing a piece because it was on the 95 model, but not the 2001 model, or some other such nonsense.
It was the same with Clymer manuals for motorcycles. Never as good as a Honda Service Manual.
