in the middle of switching out motors. figured with motors are out switch out the gimble bearing. i have read through the manual (both seloc and mercruiser) and they both bascally say that it pulls out with a (in a poor mans shop) slide hammer. well i have one main question before we get carried away with pulling and putting a bunch of force on this i want to know what this piece is and does it need to come out before we pull on the bearing...in the atttached pictures we are looking from where the outdrive is attched looking in the bellow, you will see the end of a screwdriver pointing to a piece and that is the piece in question. dad says that is looks like a "spanner nut" or "looks like the piece in an automatic transmission that hold the bands in place"......we just dont want to break something that dont need to be broken. thanks in advance
