Repainting an Old Outdrive?

I have a 1977 Carver Santa Cruz with the OE 280 motor and drive. I'm going through the drive and replacing seals, bushings, etc. There was no water in the drive, however there was oil in the driveshaft bellow.

The drive has it's original "white" paint on it, along with a crude coat of anti-fouling. I'd like to repaint the drive. Should I take it down to bare or just prep the old paint? I am assuming I need to get all the Anti-Fouling paint off. It's a freshwater boat. I already have the drive broken down to it's segments.

before you even think of repainting, you most likely need to reseal the outdrive.

I would just sand off the anti-fouling of the whole drive assembled, use the moeller zinc dichromate primer in a rattle can, then use rustoleum paint with hardener

I am resealing the entire outdrive. It's getting all new seals, gaskets, etc.
