On the right side there looks like a bushing with approx 1/4 hole in it . On the left side it is smooth with a hole drill ion it with a spring that acts like a carter key I removed the spring and tried to knock it out from the left side only to burr up head I need help

Re: removing trim cylinder

are you sure it is not a roll pin on the right side ? it would appear as a hole (roll pins are hollow)...look close and see if there is not a shoulder around the hole...if there is , find the correct size punch and tap it out... good luck !

Re: removing trim cylinder

I have a '91 40 HP Evinrude that sounds very similiar to yours. The upper pin just slides in. Remove the hairpin type keeper from the left (port) side and carefully drive the pin out towards the right (starboard) side. Use a hammer carefully, use a drift pin to push it through so you do not mushroom the end (the pin keeper side.) Is this a powered tilt/trim or the non-powered trim assist. The non-powered tilt/assist is not rebuildable.

Re: removing trim cylinder

mine is is the same as the 91 I have tried to drive out from left to right. and have burred up head of pin still it has not moved wondering if heat would help. I am not sure where would be the best place to apply the heat. I also was wonder[ng if you can use a punch on te right side that would fit in the hole in the bushing and drive it back thay way

Re: removing trim cylinder

The engineer that designed this was nuts, I have always had to apply heat,2lb hammer,1/2 & 5/8 flat punch and vice grips to remove this pin as they are always stuck and if turned you cant get spring pin loose so it gets ripped out and bent up. If customer brings one in for repair I tell them up front if its a pain to expect 1-1/2 hours labor to remove just pin plus repair. Use heat and drive from left to right, it would have been nice if hole was a hex so you could try and turn it.
