I have a 1991 Johnson 200hp. I have to remove the lower unit to change the water pump. The problem is that when all the bolts are removed, the unit will not drop down. We put some pressure on it and it did drop down about a 1/4 inch.

Any suggestions on how to get this off. I'm trying to avoid cutting the drive shaft. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you sure you got all the bolts, there is one underneath the plate underneath the cavitation plate, you have to remove the plate to get to this bolt. You also have to release the shift rod from underneath the carbs before the lower unit will drop completely, usually some kind of pin holding it in.

MMCPECK, thanks for the reply.

I'm sure all of the bolts are out and the shift rod was released. These are twin 200hp and i did get the unit off of the other engine. I guessing that it won't release dur to corrosion where the drive shaft goes into the power head.
