Thank you for reading. I just bought a 72 muskie with the 69 evinrude.. The impeller needs changed so i removed the 4 bolts holding the lower up.. Even with some aggresive tugging i cant get the lower to drop out.. The only facter i can see to be the cause is a bolt right above the propeller... But its in a hole and im not sure a socket will fit... Please help any info on the 69 55 evinrude would be much appreciated thank you so much.

There is a bolt under the trim tab that needs to be removed!
Also, disconnect the green and blue wires that go down into the gear case (electric shift control) attach some string to it so you can pull them back when reassembling.

The big bolt you are looking at in the recess has to come out. Yes, a quality thin-wall socket will fit. PLUS, the vertical fin (trim tab) just aft of there has to come off, and above where it was you will find another bolt that has to come out.

I don't own one, but have serviced a lot of them in my many years as an Evinrude dealer mechanic.

I got it off thank you so much... now the impeller looks fine, no cracks or anything? I've already orderd a new one plus the base plate and housing... could it not have pumped water due to a problem with the thermostat?? Either way where would i find the thernostat on this 69 evinrude? once again thank you for your help so far.. its nice getting some free knowledge once in awhile..

Thermostat won't keep it from pumping water. But if you want to mess with it, it is under the cover at the top/rear of the cylinder head, held on by three bolts.
