Removing Super Glue from a vinyl dash?

Any ideas about removing the residue of Super Glue from a vinyl dashboard? My daughter just bought a cute little 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. It is very clean but has an inch square spot of super glue in the middle of the dash where the previous owner hand anchored his favorite pet bobble head beagle.

We did try some gum remover but it had no effect. I hesitate to try anything stronger without some foreknowledge that it won't hurt the vinyl surface.

I used acetone to get some super glue off of my fingers but I have no idea what it would do to the vinyl. I'd find a body shop or junk yard with a wrecked Mitsubishi and test it first.

Does she have a favorite bobble head she can mount in the same spot?

A razor blade would work for the glue, but it wouldn't do much good for the dash, unless you are reeeeaaaallllllyyy careful.

Actually we always used GM Tar and Road Oil Remover. It is great stuff and could be purchased from any GM dealer. (Don't know if they still make sell it, but I imagine they do.) It was an oil based product and would make any hard glue gummy to the point it could be scrapped off with a fingernail, razor blade, scraper, etc. However, whatever you chose to use, try it underneath the dash first where it cannot be seen to make sure it will not soften the vinyl or discolor the pigmentation.

I hope it doesn't come to that Ken, but a very good/obvious solution. :)

Vinyl dashes tend to be a bit oily so I'm hoping that what appears to be super glue, will lift off without any damage to the surface. I don't think I will try acetone.

Super glue disolves in warm water, it may take a bit of time but it will come off in the end.

Thanks for the warm water idea RPJS, I'll give it a whirl. Sure won't hurt anything.

Holdim', after that last thread I wondered the same thing.

No one has said a word about CA debonder it's made for breaking CA down for easy clean up. We are required by law to have it on hand at work for emergency use in case one of the ditzy assemblers glue there fingers together or there foreheads to the bench......

I'm going to have to get some of that to keep in the drawer, any time I mess with super glue, I always seem to get some on my fingers. Usually just wait for it to peel the skin off after a few days

Does the debonder actually disolve the super glue? And are there surfaces you should not use it on??

I recall hearing or reading somewhere that hot salty water would dissolve super glue.Sure seems that it would be cheap and safe to try.

GOOD LUCK!!!
