Hello All,

First time here, thanks for reading. I am replacing steering cable on 1994 Ranger bass boat with a 1994 Yamaha Pro 200 engine. Please help me with a couple of questions:

1) I have removed the cable that runs through the engine tilt tube but can't figure how to loosen cable nut on the steering tube without turning the tube with the nut. Any ideas on best way to loosen that nut?

2) The cable pulled out of the tilt tube without removing engine. It looks like I'll be able to do the same to the second cable after I can loosen the nut mentioned above. Do I have to have engine removed to install new cables to prevent damaging them?

3) Assuming I use a no feedback type of mechanical steering cable, would it be worth approximately doubling the cost to install a hydraulic steering system? (i.e. are there installation/maintenance advantages to hydraulics?) Looking for opinions here.

I guess that was more than a couple of questions. Thanks for the help!

I answered my own first question. When I pulled the rubber cap off the port side of the steering tube, I noticed a spot on the threads that had been "buggered up" with vice grips when initially installed so I did likewise to remove.

Still looking for answers to questions 2 & 3 though.

Thanks
