i have a 1992 volvo penta 570A and the raw water impellor doesn't want to come off the shaft. only three or four inches to play with in front of the raw water pump - any suggestions on the best way to remove the impellor and the tools to use so as not to damage the pump? would penetrating oil help?

Re: removing sea water impeller

I just get a couple of screw drivers (one on each side) and pry the impeller out a little at a time. Being very careful not to damage the pump housing.

okay, i'll bring all my stubby srewdirvers up to the lake this weekend and see if i can pry it off - not much room to work with in front of the pump. any suggestions on what to put on the splines - copper or aluminum anti seize? - so this problem doesn't happen again?

Nothing on the splines. That isn't the problem. The impellers have the blades bent over on one side and puts a lot of friction on the vanes and pump housing.
Use some dish liquid when reinstalling the new impeller, makes them slide in easier.
