a metal punch from the backside of the race. Work your way around the circumference of the race so that it doesn't get cocked.

A brass punch works best...........

Some here have made things to make the job easier, maybe they will post what they did.

Re: removing races

Feel around the back side of the race and you'll find either 2 or 4 notches. From the back side of the hub, insert a brass or steel drift punch and drive the race out. You will not reuse the race so it doesn't matter if its damaged in the process. When you install the new one, put it in the freezer for a couple hours. During that time thoroughly clean the hub. Chilling the race causes it to shrink a little making it easier to install. You just need to be ready to go when you remove it as it will heat back up quickly. Bearing driver must be immediately at hand.

Many hubs don't have notches so don't be surprised if yours don't.

Re: removing races

Just be very careful when using a punch, especially where there is no relief to allow a straight shot at the race. It's easy to damage the hub surface if the punch gets cocked too far. Good reason to use a brass punch. If you do nick up the surface, use some crocus cloth to smooth it out again as best you can before inserting the new races.

Check your bearing and race numbers carefully. The last batch I bought had two of the wrong races in the package. They were very close but slightly too big. The numbers are printed along the edge...
