Removing Paint From Fiberglass

When I purchased my boat I purchased it used from another state. I have to renumber the hull and the present registration numbers are painted on. I have tried acetone, paint thinner rubbing compound and I can not get the painted numbers off. Does anyone have ant ideas?

Ya, paint is pretty permenent once it sets up, you may have to sand them off.

Possibly have a local sign shop make your new numbers and get a peice of vinyl big enough to cover the old numbers, they should be able to get the new numbers on the vinyl base so that is all you have to put on.

That is what I have done for now and it doesn't look to bad. I would like to eventially get the painted ones off though. You can see the outline of the painted numbers through the vinyl background as it has telegraphrd through.
