Removing outdrive on a 97 SPX

Back in August I stupidly got too close to shore and sucked a rock(s) thru the impeller. One of them got stuck and immediately stalled the motor....luckily I was basically idling. It obviously won't turn over as the rock is stuck between the impeller and the casing surrounding. Looking thru the outdrive I can see the rock....I've tried getting it to move by sticking a prybar thru the outdrive but no luck. Didn't seem like much trouble to take the outdrive off so I pulled the nuts, unhooked the steering and pulled....nothing. It feels loose, but won't come out. A couple people have mentioned that there is likely some kind of seal keeping it in. I would think that if that was the case, I could still pull it loose. Luckily my garage it warm enough that I can leave it inside without fear of freezing...but I'd like to fix it so I can put my truck inside....cleaning snow from it everyday is getting old....lol. Any ideas on why this thing won't come off?

Thanks

In order to pull the jet pump you must remove the rideplate and make sure all hardware attaching it to the hull is removed. most SeaDoo models have to have the driveshaft removed in order to get the jetpump that houses the impeller out. In order to get the driveshaft out the engine has to come out. "ALL seadoos must have the driveshaft and pump realigned after any loosening or removal of pump or engine. Much like a shaft on an outdrive when replacing a gimbal bearing". check the PTO as well,Seadoo has a tool or can be purchased aftermarket. Good Luck

I don't need to pull the impeller...the rock is right at the back of it....I just need to get the steering nozzle assembly out so that I can get my hand in there. There's nothing connecting the steering nozzle assembly to the impeller housing. It's the steering nozzle assembly that won't come out...even though it is loose after the 4 bolts holding it to the hull and the steering cable are unhooked.

i think you have the same hull as my xp. the steering nozzle should come off independently of the pump without too much difficulty. do you have the shop manual? its pretty good and has lots of pictures and parts diagrams. however, if you can't get it out with a long metal object, be prepared that you may have to pull the pump, which can be a real PITA if you've never done it before.

If I remember correctly there are four nuts and one bolt w/ nut for the steerig housing. This exposes the cone where you change your jet oump oil. Look further in there are four more nuts, but you will have to disconnect any hoses from the inside. Your wear ring ( this is what you change when your bike isn't propelling and rapping out on RPMS) and impeller is in this housing. This is your Jet Pump. the drive shaft slides out of the impeller.
Now it is a pain toget this off due to the sealant they use. You are going to have to clean all the old off and replace other wise blup blup blup......
