Removing Old Gasket and Salt Build-Up

I am replaceing the head gasket on 120hp, What is the best way to get the old gasket off the block and head without damaging either?

Also, whats the best way to get the salt build-up out of the water jacket?

You can try GOO gone..acetone.....spray with a penetrating oil over nite to soften the gasket......then use a wood chisel ..flat on the surface to remove it....or a single edge blade...but have a few incase they break...the chisel works fine as long as its flat and sharp..just dont gouge the metal...so flat ....

for the salt..fresh water will disolve that..its the metal coorison and scale you need to address......I have seen some people that run a gun bore brush on a drill to get the crap out..but U need to clean it real good after....
