Hello, I'm removing my 1997 Mercury 75hp of my 1995 tracker v17. I'm going to do some transom work and rivet repairs. Im using a cherry picker to remove from the transom but I do not have an engine stand or anything to hang it on. I was thinking of laying it on its side on a old tire I have. Usually thats what we do in our dealeship when we store an engine for s long time. Is it a bad idea? Can I damage the lower unit?

No problem in laying it on the side, but recomend that you keep the powerhead slightly higher than the lower unit, and with the oil reservoar side up.
Remember to run it in freshwater if used in saltwater before you store it.
