89 evinrude 40hp el. where is the shift rod connector located. I have removed the 5 bolts, but cannot locate the shift rod. Also what is the correct adjustment measurements? Have just bought the motor and have no manuals.
trust me get a manual.try ebay they are not that much.remove the little black screens on the sides of the lower unit and they should be there(they are on my 84 35hp)they may be under the carb.good luck
Thanks to both of you. ERN41 posted what sounds like the same problem on 3-24-05. It seems that moving the horizonal shaft on the power head may be the answer. Manual has been ordered.
