Hello all I am having a devil of a time removing my lower unit for a water pump rebuild. I have removed all 4 bolts and the three underneath as well so that makes 7 bolts out. I have disconnected the pin on the right side if the motor and pushed it inward, still won't budge. Where else do I need to look? . Any help woukd be appreciated

By 'pin' do you mean the one connecting the shift rod to the shift linkage?

It might help you to see a parts diagram, you can go to shop2.evinrude.com and find a diagram for your engine.

Metriccresent is correct. Under the carbs a little tough to get too, You need to unbolt the shift linkage bolt, . Put motor in reverse this pulls the rod down more when removing. When installing put shift rod in forward gear to raise the rod up. Patients and a little muscle not to much you will get it. Good luck.

Just did this myself last week. If you can get your lower engine cover off it can make this entire job easier. That allows better sight lines and access to tight spots.

Sorry , but nothing needs to be unbolted here.-----The poster has correctly removed the hitch pin and pushed the shift shaft in.---Hopefully the shift shaft was rotated after it was pushed in.-------The next bit can be nasty if the driveshaft spline is rusted into the crankshaft.--Does the lower unit drop down at all ????

The shift rod is free, there is nothing holding it. Meaning the gold long piece that is vertically going down I to the lower unit. I have looked for a bolt and the only one I coukd find I have already removed which was holding the large gold piece on the left side of the shift shaft under the carbs. Hope that made some sense lol

Racer one, the lower u it does not drop down at all. I gently try to move it side to side and the front of it will move ever so slightly.

Answer this question first.--Did you remove the hitch pin on the motor shift shaft ?---Did you push the shift shaft in to release the shift rod ?---Model # of your motor is ?

Yes I disconnected the hitch and I pushed it in towards the motor to release the shift shaft. When I look I side I can see that there is nothing holding the shift rod, it is just sitting there not attached to anything. So I assume I disconnected it right by following the procedures I have read on this site. Mod of engine is evinrude te60tletd

Just did a qick google search and came up with an interesting thread. I can't seem to get a direct link but there is the name of the post. It looks like it may be here in iboats forum. The topic covers a mercury but I think the general ideas my apply to your situation too. Google search "Outboard Motor Repair-Help... I'm screaming at Lower Unit...40hpMerc."
