Removing hot water tank?

My boat came with a 6 gallon hot water tank. I have never used it and would like to remove it to free up some room in the engine bay. Has anybody ever done this, looks like it also connected to the engine as well

Take the fresh water hoses going in and out and just connect them together. Take the hoses going to and from the motor, remove and plug the holes with pipe plugs
