Removing Gel From Pulsepacks (1968/72) - How?

Some time back (years), there was talk of repairing the faulty components within the old style ignition pulsepacks (Battery Capacitance Discharge). In order to do this the gel had to be removed.

To my knowledge, the process of removing the gel was never discussed. To simply dig the gel out would be a lengthy crude process that could (and probably does) cause harm to various components within the gel.

My question...... What is the process one would use to remove the gel?

Place it potting down on a rack in your oven and place a pan under it. Start at 250 degrees and crank it up 25 degrees at a time til it starts melting out. If you get above 350 degrees, the components will be ruined. They might anyhow. Have the windows open and fans running. It stinks! Rubbery potting melts out better than plasticky potting.

There is a spray or gel that desolves the podding without harming the components or connections. Rapair / CDI may sell it.

If CDI doesn't have it GE Silicones, or Dow Corning surely will have it. In the aerospace industry, where there are a lot of potted modules (due to extreme environments encountered) that have to be repaired from time to time, the mfgrs of the potting also mfgr chemicals to dissolve it...... melt it, pour it out, make the repair, pour in new molding compound....good as new.
