I am removing the gas tank in the bottom of my wellcraft. They bypassed the tank in the bottom of the boat and put a tank under the console. I want to replace the tank in the floor of my boat. My question is when I removed the access plate I can see all the hose connections and the the tank. But there is a layer of floatation about 3 to 4 inches thick over the top of the tank except aroud the connections. It is slow trying to use a scrapper to remove the floation from the tank. Does anyone know of an easier way to remove this. Is there a solvent that will dissolve the floatation. Or any suggestions of an easier way. Thanks Robintx2

Nope, you will have to chisel out all of the foam and then use a hoist to pry the tank out. Not an easy feat.

Yea, plan on a couple of weeks to pull the tank out . . .

Removing the Fuel Tank

There should not be foam on the top of the tank . . . so when you re-install, and if you use foam, check out the latest on the ABYC, NMMA and U.S. Coast Guard regulations regarding tank installations.

And depending on the size of the tank it may be necessary to remove some of the floor. Its a big job to remove one, and why some one added a above deck tank.

Mine has an access plate. The tank hose connections are right there. It looks like the tank is about 4 to 5 feet long and about 2 and a half wide. Can't tell how deep it is. I think once I remove the floatation it should be easy to take the tank out. I hope.
